The route and evidence
Pass the appropriate EPA-approved test. The type of certification depends on the equipment category; Universal covers all three types. Use the EPA requirements and approved-program list.
Fees to include in your budget
Testing organizations set their charges. Confirm the test, proctoring, retake and card fees; EPA does not publish a single universal course-and-test price.
Renewal and continued use
EPA says Section 608 credentials do not expire. Keep the card and identify the certifying organization if a replacement is needed.
Before buying training
Check the intended equipment category, test format and approved organization. An address in EPA’s organization list may be a headquarters, not a local test venue.
Progression after the first credential
Use the credential within the permitted work and employer arrangements. It does not replace state or local licensing, job-specific training or other credentials.
