Checking veterans’ education and training benefits

Before choosing a school or apprenticeship, check the exact training option in the VA’s own tools and confirm your individual eligibility.

Look up the specific training location

Use the GI Bill Comparison Tool and verify the institution or training facility. A brand name alone may not identify the approved location or program.

Ask the certifying official

Confirm the program, schedule, benefit certification process and how changes in attendance could affect payments. Keep a copy of the written explanation.

Explore work-based routes too

VA education benefits can include approved apprenticeship and on-the-job training routes. Verify the specific employer or sponsor and benefit arrangement.

Build a realistic budget

Check which payments go to the school and which go to you, along with their timing. Include costs and periods that your particular benefit will not cover.
