Explore the actual work
Read the occupation’s tasks and talk to people doing the job. Ask about shifts, physical demands, travel, customer interaction and what an entry-level day looks like.
Check the route from where you are now
Write down prerequisites, exams, licenses and practical requirements. Ask whether your previous education or work experience can count, and who makes that decision.
Build a transition budget
Include course costs, your household costs and any reduction in earnings. Compare full-time, part-time and paid-work routes using the same assumptions.
Set decision points
Before a deposit, confirm approval, costs and schedule. Before leaving a job, check the enrollment agreement and start date. Keep an alternative plan for a delayed intake or placement.
