Training routes for veterans and service members

Connect military experience, the civilian credential and the right benefit route. Each requires its own evidence.

1. Define the civilian target

Match actual tasks and desired occupation rather than relying on a military-to-civilian title alone. Check any state license or industry credential required in the intended work location.

2. Verify the facility and benefit

Use the VA comparison tool for the exact school or employer. Speak with the school certifying official about the course, your benefit and payment timing. A school’s general veteran-friendly description is not approval.

3. Document experience and credit

Collect training and service records for the appropriate evaluator. FAA, for example, assesses relevant practical aviation experience; military service by itself does not grant testing eligibility.

4. Coordinate services

Ask VA and employment-support staff how education, rehabilitation and local workforce services can work together. Compare entitlement use, additional expenses and the effect of a delayed start.
