Your starting point

Changing careers into a skilled occupation

Test the work before committing the time and money. Experience from another field can help, but occupational entry requirements still need checking.

1. Compare the working day

Use tasks, work context and local pay evidence to investigate duties, travel, shifts and physical demands. Ask a real employer what a new entrant does; experienced-worker medians are not starting-pay guarantees.

2. Preserve useful experience

List evidence of troubleshooting, customer communication, planning, safety procedures and teamwork. Ask a provider whether documented prior learning can count toward the exact award; do not assume a reduction.

3. Compare more than one route

Place a public-college option beside a private course, apprenticeship or employer route where available. Confirm actual entry windows, study time, qualification and employment commitments.

4. Stress-test the transition

Model lower earnings, time to employment and delayed aid. Set a decision date and the evidence you need before resigning or taking on debt.
