The route and evidence
FAA identifies certificated Aviation Maintenance Technician Schools and documented practical experience as routes. Its experience guidance refers to 18 or 30 months as applicable to the rating sought. The FAA evaluates eligibility; course completion is not the certificate.
Fees to include in your budget
Obtain a full school or preparation quote, then budget separately for the applicable knowledge, oral and practical testing. Charges depend on the testing arrangements.
Renewal and continued use
Check FAA rules for exercising privileges and recent experience. Do not assume possession of a certificate by itself permits every task in every circumstance.
Before buying training
Verify the school’s FAA status and rating scope or discuss experience evidence with the appropriate FAA office. Military service by itself does not establish testing eligibility.
Progression after the first credential
Document the practical work and supervision. Further ratings, authorizations and employer approvals have separate requirements.
