The route and evidence
Review the Certified Welder program and arrange the appropriate performance test with an AWS Accredited Test Facility. Match the process and code to the work you intend to do.
Fees to include in your budget
AWS’s price list effective January 1, 2026 lists a $70 Certified Welder application and a $105 yearly maintenance subscription. The test facility sets the practical examination charge; these figures are not the total training cost.
Renewal and continued use
Follow the current maintenance and continuity requirements for the qualification and its code. A yearly payment and the evidence needed to keep a qualification active are separate matters.
Before buying training
Ask the test facility what materials, practice, retests and paperwork are included. Keep the actual qualification scope and maintenance records.
Progression after the first credential
Inspection credentials have separate education, experience and testing rules. Do not treat an entry welder qualification as a Certified Welding Inspector credential.
